Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is a semi-autonomous federal agency of Pakistan that is responsible for enforcing fiscal laws and collecting revenue for the government of Pakistan.

FBR through Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) has announced jobs of Customs Department for direct recruitment such as Inspector Customs / Intelligence Officer, Appraising / Valuation Officer and Preventive Officer (Grade-16).

Requirements of Jobs

FPSC has invited interested candidates to apply for aforesaid posts with specific qualifications, physical standards and other requirements. The detail of jobs is as under:

Job Title: Inspector Customs / Intelligence Officer
Basic Pay Scale: 16
Job Type: Permanent
Department: Revenue Division, FBR

Qualification / Physical Standard of Fitness:

  • Second Class or Grade'C' Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university with Economics, Commerce, Statistics, Accounting, Computer Science, Law, Pharmacy, Chemistry or Physics as one of the subjects or BSc Engineering in any specialty.
  • Minimum Height: Male: 5'-6" and Female: 5'-2".
  • Minimum Chest Measurement: 32"-33.5"
  • Computer literacy up to the level of MS Word, MS Power Point and MS Excel.
  • Age Limit: 20-28 years plus 05 years general relaxation in upper age limit.
  • Gender: Both male and female candidates are eligible.

Job Responsibilities

Inspector Customs / Intelligence Officer: A Customs Inspector works in law enforcement, enforcing the laws that govern imports and exports. They inspect those entering and exiting the border. They work to ensure security against terrorists and terrorist acts, inspect travelers for citizenship and passports, and enforce the trade regulations through local, state, city, and country law enforcement officials.

Appraising / Valuation Officer: Examination of export/ import consignments/ goods at wharfs/ Dry ports/ Airport/ Customs stations etc. and detection of mis-declarations.

Reconciliation/ audit of temporary import bonds (Raw material & machinery).
Assessment of duty/ taxes and determination of value of consignment in accordance with the Customs Act, 1969.

Confirmation of Pakistan Customs Tariff (PCT) headings, ascertains and cross checks the value, type quality and quantity of the consignment.

Preventive Officers the examination recruits candidates in the Central Excise Inspector and Examiner posts. Preventive Officer works in the Custom Department, which is an authority responsible for collecting tariff and controlling the flow of goods and items, in and out of the country.

Salaries

The salary of Inspector Customs / Intelligence Officer, Appraising/ Valuation Officer and Preventive Officer is around Rs.45,000/- per month plus government residence at place of duty.

Selection Procedure

Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) shall conduct the exam through a procedure, as follow:

  • Eligible candidates are called for written Exam (100 marks).
  • Successful candidates are called for their Interview.
  • Finally, qualified candidates are recommended to FBR for their appointment.
  • Training as prescribed by the Government.

Syllabus and Exam

FPSC has given syllabus for the aforesaid exams at its website recently. The test specification and topics are as under:

Objective Type Test (MCQ)

  1. Part-I English = 20 marks
    • Grammar usage, Sentence structuring
  2. Part-II General Intelligence Test = 80 marks
    • Basic Arithmetic
    • Current Affairs
    • Pakistan Affairs & Islamic Studies
    • Everyday / General Science
      (Equal weightage for each topic at Part-II)

Note: In exam of Inspector Customs/ Intelligence Officer and Appraising/ Valuation Officer, questions from "Basic Computer Operation in MS Office" will also be included in Part II ( General Intelligence Test).

Exam Schedule

The date of exam (admission test) is awaited. The exam date will be placed here as and when the FPSC schedules it.

Preparation of Paper

For preparation of MCQs paper, a candidate is required to prepare English, Pak Affairs, Islamiat, General Knowledge, Every Day Science, and basic Mathematics. Watch CNN, BBC and Informative Channels and Read Newspaper. Books for such papers are available in Markets.
