Second Asian Arabic Debating Championship begins today in Muscat, Oman

The second edition of the Asian Arabic Debating Championship organised by QatarDebate, a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), starts today in Muscat under the patronage of Basel bin Ahmad Alrawas, Undersecretary of Oman's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, with representatives of different youth organisations. After the immense success by the first edition of the championship held in Kuala Lumpur, this edition includes the participation of 165 debaters representing 42 teams. Debaters will compete for five days from January 29 until February 2. The championship includes training sessions prior to its commencement, in addition to competitive rounds that supports the increasing number of participants, judges, volunteers in this edition.
Oman and 17 other countries including Qatar, Australia, Azerbaijan, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Yemen are participating in the tournament.
About 75 judges, mostly Oman graduates of the training academy, are part of the tournament, and QatarDebate has conducted many training sessions to qualify them to participate in this championship. QatarDebate aims to bring together speakers to debate in Arabic regardless of their mother tongues, promoting dialogue and constructive discussions.
