'Pakistan Explores New Science and Education Horizons in collaboration with CERN'
ESSAY COMPETITION 2014
1st Prize: 50,000 PKR, 2nd Prize: 30,000 PKR, 3rd Prize: 20,000 PKR
CERN Secretariat, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission invites students to participate in an essay competition on the occasion of Pakistan joining CERN as associate member.
CERN. The European Organization for Nuclear Research, is the world's leading scientific organization conducting research to answer the fundamental questions relating to universe, structure of matter and nature of interaction between various forms of matter.
Pakistan has a long history of collaboration with CERN. Pakistani scientists, physicists, engineers and specialized technicians have been participating in CERN technical and research projects since 1994.
Two operational GRIDS in Pakistan receive direct data from CERN and perform complicated scientific calculations to determine the tracks and physics of elementary particles. Fabrication and assembly of particle detectors like resistive plate chambers (RPC) and silicon detector rods for Compact Muon Solenoin, heavy mechanical part for the CMS and ATLAS, cutting and welding back joints of Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are same collaboration examples.
CERN Associate Membership agreement is going to be signed on December 19. 2014. Apart from research and training, of students/scientists/engineers atCERN. the accession qualifies Pakistani industry to bid for commercial and engineering contracts from CERN laboratories.
The young scientists/ engineers/ technicians will be the highest beneficiary and should com forward to grasp this new opportunity.
An essay competition is being held to create awareness amongst the students community about CERN's program and Pakistan's potential role in this regard. In turn, it will provide us inputs that may be used for planning of future strategy for getting maximum benefits out of this window of opportunity that would be available as a result of Pakistan becoming associate member of CERN. The competition is open to university level students. Each participant shall be permitted to submit only one entry; joint entries shall not be entertained. You may take help from internet but description and ideas should be yours. The essay submitted should not have been presented in any other competition and / or for publication whatsoever.
