The Aga Khan University (AKU) has partnered with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) - an internationally renowned Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research, in developing and evolving the Aga Khan University Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (CRM).
CRM has a state-of-the-art facility for multi-disciplinary researchers to undertake cutting edge research on stem cell and regenerative medicine. CRM nurtures young researchers (scientists and clinical scientists) in an environment that fosters learning and innovation.
AKU-CRM invites young and ambitious individuals who want to develop their careers as core laboratory facility Research Technician. The core laboratory provides services in molecular pathology, histopathology, imaging (e.g. confocal microscopy, laser capture, light/florescent microscopy etc.), tissue culture (e.g. primary, stem cells, etc.), molecular and cell biology and core laboratory management.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Laboratory Manager and Director, AKU-CRM, the individual will perform a varied set of responsibilities.
Specific responsibilities will include the following:
being responsible for various activities associated with the research laboratory operations and logistical assistance to the Laboratory Manager in ordering chemicals, consumables, glassware, & plastic ware for laboratory use.
maintaining stock inventory of all chemical & consumable (including glassware, plastic ware) items
issuing lab chemicals & consumables to different researchers and teams of AKU-CRM, maintain records of the issued item for subsequent billing to Finance Department
following-up on the maintenance of lab equipment and tracking complaints
maintaining cleanliness of cold storage room and supply storage room with the proper inventory of all stock supplies and reagents
liaising with the housekeeping staff for maintaining lab cleanliness
autoclaving and cleaning of all required glassware and other equipment regularly
operating and managing the deionization plant of the AKU-CRM
monitoring and maintaining liquid nitrogen Tank level regularly
assisting with Liquid nitrogen refilling (Coordinate with purchase department regarding cylinders' movements, etc.)
monitoring and logging daily temperature and humidity of lab areas
preparation of 70% alcohol, 70% isopropanol, and other reagents required in the lab
undertaking regular (e.g., weekly) maintenance of all the equipment in the CRM lab and assist in quarterly preventive maintenance with Bio-Medical Engineering and Maintenance Department.
delivering all documents related to CRM office and lab to different departments of AKU, including HR and finance
assist the administration in issuing IT-related equipment, including computers, laptops, and UPS, for team members
carrying out duties assigned by the Lab Manager and Director, AKU-CRM.
Requirements:
You must have:
an Intermediate with at least five years experience in the relevant field. Preference will be given to individuals who have wet research lab experience
strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks assigned by the Lab Manager and Director, AKU-CRM
competence in computer usage and ability to use Microsoft Office
excellent communication skills
The ability to follow instructions quickly and capable of working with minimal supervision
demonstrate proficiency in communication with vendors during the installation of equipment.
