Job Description

The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has nine community-based field sites across Pakistan (including five in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level, not only impacting the health policies but also enabling millions to live an improved life.
The department is carrying out a study on Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV). World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are 14.3 million typhoid cases and 222,000 typhoid-associated deaths per year, globally. South and Southeast Asia accounts for 90% of the disease mortality. Increasing drug resistance in Typhoid (MDR & XDR) is limiting treatment options, leading to complicated cases and mortalities. The Government of Pakistan is introducing Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) in the national immunization program. Establishment of a strong national representative surveillance network is a key for impact assessment of any intervention and monitoring of drug resistance. This study will generate important data on the impact of TCV in reducing the burden of typhoid and drug resistance among Typhoid cases in Pakistan by establishing surveillance network for Typhoid in collaboration with large laboratory networks and hospitals across Pakistan. The study will be conducted at private and public sector hospitals and laboratory networks of Sindh and Punjab. In addition, rapid screening analysis to measure the impact of TCV against culture confirmed S.Typhi among children when the vaccine is administered during a catch-up campaign to children 9 months-15 years of age will also be measured. This will be a short-term activity of 3 to 5 months.

Responsibilities:
You will be responsible to:
manage field work process to ensure effective use of time
collect data to ensure quality control
facilitate meetings among the research teams and train research staff on research, interviewing and proper data collection skills
liaise with administration team for field work-related logistics
follow and ensure field implementation of project related SOPs and guidelines as defined in the research project.

Requirements:
You should have:
a Master's or Bachelor's degree, preferably in Sociology or Social Sciences
at least one year of relevant experience
basic research and good interpersonal skills, particularly communication skills
good command over the use of computer applications, particularly MS Office
resilience and ability to cope-up with work pressure and meet stringent timelines
willingness to work in community setting and travel to field sites.
This is a close-ended position to be based in Hyderabad.
