Job Description

The Campus Counselor will work with individuals from the FCCU community who are experiencing personal difficulties. The counselor will offer support by listening, empathizing, encouraging and empowering clients to see things more clearly or in a different way. The counselor will help clients develop skills and utilize tools or resources to overcome challenges and make appropriate changes in their lives. The counselor will maintain stringent confidentiality and will abide by the Core Values of FCCU.

Position requirements:
Minimum Education and Experience:
MS in Clinical Psychology or Counseling
1 year counseling experience preferred

Skills:
Strong listening and interpersonal skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to relate to individuals from a broad range of backgrounds
Understanding of confidentiality and ethics
Ability to build rapport and establish a professional relationship with clients

Responsibilities:
Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to the following):
Provide an emotionally and psychologically safe place for clients to share their concerns and difficulties (emotional, psychological, relational, behavioral etc.)
Perform initial evaluation of client needs and develop customized counseling plans
Monitor client progress and modify individualized plans as needed
Maintain active client records and discard old records in an appropriate manner
Conduct group counseling sessions to support clients as they deal with common problems and shared concerns
Arrange lectures, seminars, and workshops to promote psychological, social, and emotional wellbeing
Create handouts and worksheets covering a broad range of self-help and awareness topics
Extend help to students in emergency situations, which may involve crisis intervention outside normal working hours
Involve clients family when appropriate or in case of emergency
Establish connections with community resources and make referrals when needed
Maintain confidentiality and anonymity and be mindful of the situations in which it is appropriate to breach them
Engage in appropriate self-care including check in sessions with the other counselors both as needed and in scheduled sessions
Provide support to other counselors in the center as needed and/or requested
