How to Find LDC and UDC Jobs?

In this article, we shall try to understand about the clerical job in government sector with the aim to guide the youth that how they can get LDC or UDC job and what are the aspects necessary for it. First, let's find out the full form of LDC and UDC.

What is the work of a clerk in staff selection?

A person employed in an office or bank to keep records, accounts, and undertake other routine administrative duties is called CLERK. Its origin lies in Greek history where person appointed to perform the routine court work were termed as Clerk. Job of clerk is diversified in its nature and depends upon the place where a clerk is working. In broader sense, a clerk may have to do the following:-

  1. Answer phones
  2. Filing
  3. Data processing
  4. Faxing
  5. Envelope stuffing and mailing
  6. Message delivery
  7. Running errands
  8. Sorting incoming mail

Generally, it is understood that the clerks work in government sector and people seek this job interestingly. In Pakistan, the clerical cadre has been bifurcated as under:-

  1. Junior Clerk (JC)/ Lower Division Clerk (LDC)
  2. Senior Clerk (SC) / Upper Division Clerk (UDC)
  3. Assistant / Head Clerk

In provincial government organizations, pay scale / grade of Junior Clerk is 11 and Senior Clerk is of 14 whereas in federal government LDC is of grade 09 and UDC is of grade 11.
What we need to understand is that in federal government organizations, the terms LDC, UDC and Head Clerk are used whereas, in provincial government organizations, the terms Junior Clerk, Senior Clerk and Assistant are in use. Their job nature is more or less the same and there is no difference. It is only the terminology applied by the federal and provincial government.

Qualification Requirements for LDC / UDC Jobs

Next question which comes to the mind is that how one may get this clerical job. Generally, the post of Junior Clerks / Lower Division Clerks is filled through direct / initial appointment. The criteria may differ from department to department but the general criteria for job as Junior Clerk / LDC is as under:-

Matric/ Secondary School Certificate from a recognized educational board.
English Typing speed of 25 words per minute (wpm).
Some organizations may also ask for Urdu Typing Speed of 25 wpm and basic computer knowledge.

It is highlighted that, in provincial government organizations, the post of Senior Clerk / Upper Division Clerk is not filled by initial appointment rather it is filled through promotion but in federal government organizations, it is filled in both ways i.e. direct and promotion. Federal government while looking for Senior Clerk / UDC follows below criteria:-

Intermediate from a recognized board.
English Typing speed of 35 wpm.
Some organizations may also require Urdu Typing Speed of 35 wpm and basic computer knowledge.

Punjab Civil Secretariat while appointing the candidates against the post of Junior Clerk refers it to Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) where one paper written test is also conducted before typing test and interview.

So anyone interested to get Clerk/UDC job may get the aforementioned educational and technical qualifications. Government organizations publish these jobs time to time through their website or newspapers mostly in Daily Jang or Dawn of Sunday.
